How is a TOV gold piece made?

In our European TOV atelier, we work with real gold, in 14k and 18k. It is the source of perfection. Every piece is made by hand: traditional craftsmanship according to international goldsmith standards. We give the process the time it deserves. Time is our luxury. It is even at the core of our success.

More time, however, went into the creation of the gold itself. Gold is a cosmic element; it has existed since the creation of the universe. Crazy! It is not possible to make gold. Gold was created by forces of nature, in the stars. Through nuclear fusion reactions. How did it get to earth? Scientists don’t exactly know.

We do know that the total amount of gold on earth is limited and is not replenished. Gold is six times rarer than platinum, and 18 times rarer than silver. Gold is precious and scarce. We appreciate it.

Why are you so proud to work with solid gold only?

Proud we are indeed. No sugarcoating here! We are solid. Solid gold makes top-quality jewellery. It means the whole piece is gold, with no base metal underneath. Solid gold lasts, unlike, for example, gold-plated jewellery, where the gold layer tarnishes easily.

Solid gold stays vibrant. The gold is almost indestructible. It doesn’t rust, tarnish, or decay and won’t melt. At least not below, 1063°C. Bonus: solid gold is hypoallergenic, so gentle on your skin.

How can I tell if the gold is truly the quality you promise?

Ha, some say you should bite down on gold to test it—but don’t even think about it. There’s a much simpler way.

All TOV jewels come beautifully boxed, with a digital Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate confirms that your TOV piece is handcrafted according to internationally recognized goldsmith standards, ensuring a genuine, high-quality piece. There is more: every piece carries its own proof of quality. The 585 or 750 hallmark confirms the purity of the gold, depending on the piece.

Why is 14k gold your material of choice?

14k gold strikes the ideal balance between purity, durability, and beauty. Gold is measured in karats, which indicate purity out of 24 parts. Pure 24k gold is stunning but too soft, it scratches too easily. 9k gold could prevent that, but we much prefer 14k. Here’s why:

1. Bright appearance: 14k gold has a richer, more vibrant colour, giving it a luxurious shine that 9k can’t match.
2. Great durability: while both are strong, 14k gold is less prone to tarnishing and offers better resistance to wear over time.

How do you keep TOV fair and responsible?

At TOV there are no golddiggers. It’s all love. Only pre-loved gold enters our atelier. We meld vintage gold and refine it until it reaches its purest form. We then reshape the gold, using the highest standards: goldsmith standards. Now this is where the magic happens. This is where the pre-loved gold becomes the ultimate TOV piece.

Pre-loved gold gives you the same excellent quality without traditionally mined gold's social and environmental issues. Shining no mining. True: the gold was mined once, way back when.
